O2 Customer Wi-Fi
As part of their franchise agreement, the Go-Ahead group had committed to installing customer Wi-Fi to the majority of their operated stations across its Northern, Thameslink and Southern routes.
As part of a bidding process, O2 Telefonica were the communications company successfully selected to provide this service. Having worked closely with Telefonica on the bid and combined with our large experience of working on railway infrastructure, Netcab were selected as the installation company for the project.
A project of this scale always comes with a number of challenges and with this project, the largest was the timescale. From the point the contracts were signed, Netcab had three months to complete the project. Not only did this include the full installation at each site but surveys had to be carried out first prior to work commencing.
Close collaboration between the client, facilitating teams through to the installation teams meant this seemingly mammoth task was performed and completed ahead of schedule.
O2’s preferred hardware for this project was from Cisco. Train stations are rarely identical and Netcab’s experience was heavily relied upon to select the best active equipment from Cisco for each position, to achieve the maximum possible coverage at each station.
